WinPopup
Microsoft WinPopup is an instant messaging application with GUI which is part of Windows 3.x/95/98/Me operating systems.
With WinPopup, you can send and receive text messages and alerts from the following servers and clients:
- Windows NT 4/2000/XP/Server 2003(Messenger service)
- Windows 3.x/95/98/Me (WinPopup.exe)
- LAN Manager
- Novell NetWare
- Unix/Linux Samba's smbclient
- compatible messengers
Messenger service / "net send"
The NT Messenger service is part of Windows NT 4/2000/XP/Server 2003 operating systems. It provides the ability to send messages from the command prompt and to display received messages in the popup window. Using the "net send" command-line tool you can send a console (text) message to other user or computer on the network. When the Messenger service receives a network message, a dialog box will appear in the middle of the desktop.
The Messenger service is capable of sending and receiving messages and alerts from the servers and clients listed below:
